Recently Bob Stewart conducted a “Crowdsourcing” event about seller mistakes. It was great, but I realized yesterday as I was showing a townhome that he missed an important point. Bugs!
I was taking out a young couple looking for their first place. We had seen a number of townhomes and they were getting the hang of being a little bit more critical in their viewing habits. We had looked at some homes that might work in their price range and were making progress.
This unit was vacant, and I was a little concerned before we even went in, because of the eight pictures provided (our MLS allows 20), two of them included a vacuum in the picture and one included a mop. I’m guessing now those were strategically placed so we’d presume that the home was clean!
As we entered, I did see the aforementioned vacuum still lying near the front door, but right next to it was something small and dark. It was a dead bug. Not a fly. Some sort of crawling thing.
We all saw it and a collective shiver went through us! We proceeded forward, noticing the need for paint and probably new flooring throughout. Next to the half bath downstairs we saw several pieces of clothing that upon further inspection (not close inspection) included pants and underwear. Sheesh!! You can’t make this stuff up!
We should have left then, but in the same way you continue to watch a bad horror movie…we moved forward.
As we entered the kitchen, I noticed that the linoleum was curling up in the corners—generally not a good sign. I saw some movement in the corner of my left eye. It was next to the mop that was lying on the floor. Another bug. A roach I think. But it was fast! Then another, even faster!
My clients saw it too and the wife let out a scream! General consensus: time to go! Now! We never even got upstairs.
Call them creepy crawlers, call them dang roaches, call them anything, but please get rid of them before your property goes on the market!
What’s your experience with (shiver)…Bugs??
