Sometimes transparency makes things seem all too clear.

Sometimes transparency makes things seem all too clear by Richard WeisserOne of the key tenets of blogging is transparency.

A blog is not only an excellent vehicle for the delivery of pertinent information, but it can also offer insight into the personality and disposition or the writer.

Which can be a very good thing!

But it can also be a very bad thing if the author tends to present themselves in a negative light. Sometimes a writer can come across as a bully, a fanatic, or emotionally unstable.

And while this may NOT affect the way that they do business, it just might cause a prospective customer to look elsewhere when it comes time to use the service or product offered by the overzealous scribe.

That’s not to say a writer should not be passionate about their work. Properly directed passion can be a wonderful attribute that can inspire and motivate.

The key is “properly directed!”

It’s a fine line, but it is an important one.

Haha, it took me a while to learn to "step away from the keyboard" when I was angry so I didn't come across angry to consumers... even in a members only  (which I feel sure some consumers set up accounts to read)  But I'm pretty sure I "got that" now.  Only had to delete a handful of posts once I figured it out.

What folks read and how they interpret what they read surely differs from member to member.

Richard - Yes, this is something we must all keep in mind when posting.  You can't always keep others from interpreting your writings in a negative light, but you can certainly minimize it by trying to avoid being overtly negative.

Richard,  there's definitely a handful of Rainers who have made it onto my do not refer list due to temperament issues

Richard, interesting thought. There are times that I'm upset about something and probably shouldn't be blogging. Have you ever said something you wish you could take back? A little tougher when it's out there in the "bloggosphere"!

Blogging is a great way for us to see who may be a good person to refer a client to.

It will also give you an indication of who not to.

Richard- a good reminder.  Being transparent.... who you are... can be a very good thing- if who you are is someone with whom people will want to do business.

I think being ourselves is a great benefit to standing out from the pack.  People do feel like they get to know you from your posts.

You want the reader to get a grasp of the person behind the writing and not some angry person. Some days it is not a good decision to blog at all!

Blogging shouldn't be done when annoyed (or when one has had too much to drink).  I've seen people throw all sorts of things out on the Internet, then delete them.  But they've been seen, copied, saved, etc.  Once something is on the Internet, he's a done deal.

Sage advice here! Sometimes transparency is not always what is intended. I think it often comes throught in certain comments that are made. And you never know what assumptions others will make since we all know the written word, in the absence of body language and context can be so misinterpreted.

With the amount of posts that we put out there on AR, it is important to avoid the negative rants.
