It's no secret that some cities are more expensive to live in than others. San Francisco and New York City rank among the cities with the most expensive real estate in the nation. However, many home buyers are looking for affordability and want to move to cities with a lower cost of living.

The team at HomeInsurance.com decided to find the top five most affordable cities to buy a home and home buyers everywhere are sure to love our picks. To create our list of affordable cities we looked at median home prices, average home insurance premiums and average property tax. We also looked for cities with growing job markets that offer plenty of leisure activities. We narrowed our search to cities with populations ranging from 100,000 to 600,000.

If you are selling a home in St. Louis, MO, then your home buyers will be happy to know that it's one of the most affordable cities in the nation. This Midwestern city offers low median home prices, a walkable downtown area and more than 100 neighborhood parks for residents to enjoy some free family fun. Spending spring days watching the St. Louis Cardinals play is an added bonus.

Cincinnati, OH is another Midwestern city on our list that has some impressively low home prices and below average home insurance premiums. The city's growing economy is part of why it made our list – its home to 10 Fortune 500 companies including Kroger and Co. and the Procter & Gamble Company. Residents of this riverside city love to spend time outdoors and visit the city's many attractions like the Cincinnati Zoo.
