The Museum of Science holds a special place in my heart. Located just off of South Bayshore Road in North Coconut Grove, I have been going there since I was a kid. Now that I have children of my own we always take our kids to see the latest exhibit.
In the name of progress, the museum is being located to a 40 acre waterfront site on Biscayne Bay. Once built, it will be a powerful scientific and educational resource for our community, and I am very much looking forward it. But many people were wondering what was going to happen to the old museum once they move into their new location.
Thankfully, the land is being kept away from developers. Instead, ownership will revert back to the neighboring Vizcaya Museum and Gardens who intend to put the site back to its original use of farmland for Vizcaya.
Architect Richard Heisenbottle has created a master plan which will include a propagation house, visitor center, parking and the creation of green space. In the end, they hope to unify the property with Vizcaya.
