Giving away $10,000 - always a party.

Real Estate Agent with 1st Action Real Estate

For the past eight years our Chamber of Commerce has held a $10,000 reverse drawing. At the end of the evening, some lucky stiff walks out with $10 grand. Nice! murrieta reverse drawing

We only sell 225 tickets at $225 each. Each ticket comes with 2 dinners and 1 chance at the cash.

I have MC'd these for the past 8 years and my daughter, Tara, does sound effects, rude noises & music.Tara & meThis year I was joined onstage by one of our local newspaper columnists, John Hunneman. and three good looking ladies to help pull numbers and provide a little eye candy to off-set John & I. I have a face made for radio and John has a voice made for newspaper. It works well.

We start with all the numbers in a big hopper and draw them out one by one with each loser going into another hopper eligible to win $1,000 at the end f the evening. Every 5th ticket gets $50 and every 10th ticket gets $100. Every 20th ticket gets to buy me a drink.

This year we also had balloons available for $20 and one of them had a ticket for a 3 day cruise inside.

Many of the people who attend are community leaders and so we get to bag on them and call them losers as their names are drawn and play sound effects for their defeat. All in good fun.

When we get down to the last 10, they get to come up on stage. At that point they can either decide to split the $10,000 or go for the whole enchilada. They get a chance after every number is drawn to see if they have the balls to stay or if they wanna wimp out and split. In 8 years we've only had the final two split one time.

A good time is had by all - the more alcohol consumed, the better time is had by many, myself included. It's a great fundraiser held at one of our local resort/casinos and one of the social events of the year in our community.

If I don't look happy in this picture it's only because once again I didn't win doodly squat. One year my Ex-wife won but the statute of limitations had run out so I couldn't even collect a share of that. The lady in the middle won this year so her hubby and all her friends came up for the photo op. Big whoop.

My goodness, that looks like a good fundraising event.  Maybe next time you'll be lucky enough to the whole enchilada!

Gene, It's good that you haven't won yet. They would resent you and that's bad for business.

All the best to you.

Hi Gene!  Looks like fun - how can you say you've never won when every 10th ticket buys you a drink?
