BLOGGING IS GREAT BUT HAND WRITTEN NOTES ARE BETTER

By
Real Estate Agent with The Fischetti Group/Keller Williams

It may seem sacrilegious to make this point, but hand written notes are better than blogging, better than e-mail, better than texting, better than "sent from blackberry", even better than "IMing".

I may be considered old fashioned, even out of touch, but I think I am "WRITE" (pun intended) about this. People really appreciate a hand written note. Especially since it has become a lost art.

Consider this, some newly married couples send an e-mail "thank-you" as opposed to a hand written tank you note. Where is Miss Manners when you need her. Yikes, can you believe that, or do you care? I think you do care, most of us do. And most of us would be slightly put off by not getting a hand written thank you note.

Yet we live in a society where people write each other less and less. Are there even "pen pals" out there? If you've ever sponsored a child from one of those charity organizations, you will get a hand written letter from the child (or translator) and guess what you are more likely to build a bond with that child because of it, and more likely to keep giving. There is something personal about letters, or notes. And in this hectic 24/7 world the "slowness" of snail mail harkens us back, back to fond memories.

Here's my challenge to you:

Write 5 hand written notes this week to the following:

1. A loved one

2. A co-worker

3. A client

4. A mentor (or former teacher, anyone who helped you along the way)

5. Someone you want business from

If you do this you'll have a more passionate personal life and a more profitable professional life.

Let others know if you will accept the challenge and how it worked out.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jim,

I have attempted this before and only lasted for about five days--thank you for the reminder--I will start again--today!

Funny I should read this right now.  I just came back from Sam's Club where I purchased a very large package of note and thank-you cards.  Were you behind me in line?  LOL

I agree with Vickie, though, that both blogging and a written note are essential.

It's not a game, it's your life.
Oh, I must've misread the title.  I didn't see the "better" part.  I've expanded my skill set through blogging and that has increased incoming business more than the note cards have.  I will never stop the notecards though as my clients and referral partners always comment on receiving them.

Jim, I love the idea of writing notes. I write as many as I can each week - and surprisingly, writing the notes don't take all that long. We all get too much email - and a handwritten note is so much more memorable!

Hand written notes work well to clients and past clients.  I generate a lot of business doing this.

Thank you for the reminder. I believe hand written notes are appreciated.  Email has just become an easier way to communicate.  I get so much email, I don't even look at some of them.  I'm sure it's same with some of you.

I agree.  I am more likely to read a hand written note than anything else.

I have heard this before but haven't done it yet. I like your categories. Thanks for the Post. I agree it's like flowers. they are more thoughtful because it takes effort many people won't do.

There's no question that people respond to hand written notes. Everything I send out is hand written or has a hand written note attached to it. That's the only way I've ever done it so it doesn't seem like a chore to me.

It is not always easy, but it is so rarely done today. Hand written notes are a great way to seperate yourself.

Can I ask a question:

"how many notes should I be writing per day?"

Thanks
