Enterprise, Alabama has it's Annual "World's Smallest St. Patrick's Day Parade"
I used to have a couple of Retail businesses on one of the corners where this goes between (the "route" is only one block long). So, I've seen it ever since it started. Missed it this year due to my wife's Chemo and this being her quarantine week, but here is some info from the local newspapers.
The Grand Marshall, and ONLY participant - hence "World's Smallest" moniker - this year is Mark Doyle. Mark's great-grandparents were of Irish descent and the family name WAS "O'Doyle". He teaches at Ft. Rucker now and has a family farm in a smaller town just outside of Enterprise.
The Parade was stated back in the 90's, if I remember correctly, by an elderly gentleman. He was the Grand Marshall, and as I said - only marcher, for years until his passing. Since then, it's been an annual selection from several applicants. I had planned to apply this year, but broke my leg last year and am still limping. Gotta cool gimmick in mind tying in with my drum playing....
The parade grown from a handful of on-lookers, like me when I had the shops there, to a decent sized crowd with tv and newspaper coverage. I believe the National news have even picked it up on occasion.
From the S.E. Sun - The Grand Marshall/participant....
From The Enterprise Ledger's video, along with the 4 at the top. This one shows the World Famous "Boll Weevil Monument" on the right that Enterprise is known for.
