This is the most exciting month of the year for basketball fans and it's also has been the most unpredictable month of weather in Northern Virginia. The NCAA basketball tournament gets underway later this week with hopes for Virginia teams to prevail & more spring-like weather to appear.  Here are some highlights and updates on our Virginia teams moving on to the NCAA Tournament.

The University of Virginia, claimed victory over Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, and will be the top seed in the East Region.

No. 6 Virginia, beat Duke on Sunday earning its first ACC tournament championship since 1976.  They will play Coastal Carolina, a No. 16 seed, at 9:25 p.m. Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.

The winner will face the winner of Friday’s Memphis-George Washington game. Memphis (23-9) is an eight-seed and George Washington (24-8, which I'm sure will prove to be an intense game.

Virginia got its first No. 1 since 1983 and the fourth in UVA's basketball history. Virginia was a No. 1 from 1981-83 during the Ralph Sampson era.

Coastal Carolina went 21-12, winning the Big South tournament. It is playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 21 years.

Virginia Commonwealth, earned a No. 5 seed in the South Region.

The Rams (26-8), who lost to Saint Joseph's 65-61 in the Atlantic 10 tournament final Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y., will play 12th-seeded Stephen F. Austin at 7:27 p.m. Friday in San Diego.
