That’s according to a new study by Livability.com, the nation’s leading source on city rankings. The finding was based on a survey of residents conducted by a market research firm, in which respondents shared what they value most about their community, what amenities they prefer, and what they would look for in another city. Eight major factors were measured – the local economy, the quality and availability of housing, amenities, infrastructure, demographics, social and civic capital, education, and health care.
The end result: Miami Beach was the only city in Florida that made into the top ten, and one of only five in the east coast that ranked among the top 20. Livability.com noted the following factors in describing Miami Beach’s esteemed position:
“Miami Beach, located on a barrier island across Biscayne Bay from downtown Miami, has a multicultural community and an abundance of shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities. With more than seven miles of oceanfront sand and warm climate, outdoor activities keep people active and entertained. Festivals take place nearly every week, and Miami’s professional sports teams are a short drive away. In 2011, Miami Beach was given the Outstanding Achievement City Livability Award by The U.S. Conference of Mayors.”
Given its status as one of the country’s fastest-growing cities, it’s no surprise that Miami Beach would be recognized for its phenomenal standard of living.
