They say that first impressions are important.
So when I get an email from an unknown sender, my first impression is generally predicated on the subject line. If a subject line has some bearing on my business, I generally open the email.
Of course, scammers and spammers realize this and they often tempt with misleading or utterly false subject lines. That fact is readily apparent as soon as the email is opened.
Why in the world would anyone choose to do business with an entity that is fundamentality dishonest?
In the first five seconds of your interaction you already know the standard operation procedure for the business. And it isn’t a pretty picture.
Does anybody ever really fall for this?
