Early Voting Now Open in Anchorage
It's official. Absentee In-Person and early voting is now open in Anchorage for the regular Municipal Election scheduled for April 1, 2014. Both early voting and Absentee In-Person voters were allowed to begin casting their ballots at the Loussac Library and City Hall last Monday, March 17th. The Chugiak Senior Center was available for early and Absentee In-Person voting beginning yesterday, March 24th.
What is the difference between early voting and Absentee In-Person voting? When an Anchorage resident enters their vote early, their eligibility to vote is verified at the time they cast their ballot. Once the Division of Elections has verified their eligibility, that person must sign a certificate before their ballot is placed inside the ballot box. However, in the case of an Absentee In-Person voter, their eligibility is not verified until after casting their ballot. Therefore, their ballots are placed in an absentee envelope before they are put inside the ballot box.
If you wait until Election Day to cast your vote, please go to your home precinct or an official Absentee In-Person voting location to make sure that you vote on the issues specific for your neighborhood. All voters can cast their ballots at the Loussac Library, UAA Student Union and the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport on Election Day (April 1, 2014).
Avoid the hassle of the crowds. Early voting is now open in Anchorage. Visit the Loussac Library and City Hall or the Chugiak Senior Center anytime during regular business hours before Tuesday, April 1st to get your vote counted. Make your voice heard by voting on the issues that matter most to you.
