Many of you know about Salida Colorado but very few know about our hidden gems: Howard, Coaldale, Cotopaxi, Poncha Springs, Buena Vista and Nathrop. This post will focus on Buena Vista, a lovely town upriver from us.
Buena Vista has a population of about 2662 and and elevation of 8000'. It is 1000 feet higher than Salida and about 26 miles north.
Buena Vista is a quieter town than Salida but has 4-5 excellent restaurants and the downtown is charming. The average house price in BV is $359,000 with 259 days on market, compared to Salida at $441,000 and 290 days on market.
Buena Vista is 40 minutes from Monarch Mountain with the 2nd best powder in the state and 20 minutes or less from two Hot Springs, Cottonwood Hot Springs and Mount Princeton Hot Springs. White water rafting and fly fishing along the headwaters of the Arkansas river are always a favorite.
Similar to Salida, the in-town homes are priced differently than out of town. In town (homes under 1 acre) averages $198,000 and homes on 1+ acres average $364,000.

As you can see, the list prices of homes over the past year have been fairly consistent and sale prices keep rising a good sign for a healthy comeback on the market.
Great work on your pictures, Paula. I will have to spend more time in Buena Vista the next time I go through that area. I was just a bit south of there on my trip back from CO Springs.

Paula I've stayed a weekend in BV and loved it. I've eaten in 3 of the eateries and enjoyed all three. When does the Farmer's Market open? Mo and I took time-off to enjoy a getaway...loved it!
