During the Drought Even Birds Must Search for Water

As most know, California is in a drought and most of us are not using our sprinklers full board and we have had very little rain in the past few months.

During the Drought Even Birds Must Search for Water

When I came home the other day, this colorful pigeon had landed near my car and was just walking around. Then he stuck his head into the drain from the backyard and was drinking the water inside.

I have read that the drought effects the wildlife and I am sure that is true.

Hi Kristin, That is a great photo. Sort of like a cat with it's headstuck in a jar, LOL.

Hi William,

Good thing it is a 4" drain or it might have gotten stuck. Birds and animals do such funny things.

Hi Tom,

And last night I heard the salmon are stuck in Sacramento as there is not enough water for them to continue on. Water is important for our environment and they say it is one reason why the bears and mountain lions are coming into the populous areas as their is not any food or water.

Hi Sarah,

Yes you are exactly right. We all need water and hopefully the snow melt will help somewhat?

My heart breaks for them. They could use little rain to be able to drink too.

Ther drought does affect the wildlife.  The wildlife many time have to travel large distances to find water.  Many time they have to take the young with them and it can be a perilous journey.

Hi Myrl,

We had rain both nights but nothing substanial. It helps keep the lawns green. I have to dig out some plants so hopefully the ground will be soft this morning.

Hi William,

They are worried near the foothills as there has been some dogs picked up and killed by mountain lions recently and one dog was over 100lbs. They say the animals are looking for food and water so they are encroaching into residential neighborhoods.

Hi Yolanda,

Yes it is such a horrible situation up there in WA where the mudslide was. Those poor people. I pray for them and their families but I do not believe they will find anyone else alive. They did remove rubble at a house a couple of days ago and a chocolate lab popped out and just shook off the dirt and greeting the rescuers. It was a wonderful site. I am sure the lab's family are happy if alive.

Hi Tony and Darcy,

Thanks so much for the prays and keep on praying. I saw on TV that the state has hired an Indian Rain Dancer so he must have some credibility.

Hi Patty,

I think I am going to put a bird bath in my front yard so they can drink water daily.
