GE Aviation has decided to build a plant in Lafayette Indiana which will be producing the L.E.A.P. jet engine. L.E.A.P. stands for Leading Edge Avaiation Propulsion. This is incredible news, for a number of reasons! It means jobs, it means economic stability, and it means that Hoosiers have much to be proud of.
GE Aviation and Jobs
GE Aviation is suggesting that jobs may be available as early as 2015. They hope to have the LEAP engine in production and use by 2016, which means that they are eager to begin the processing of these engines as quickly as possible. The new plant will be the plant that finalizes the engine. The number of jobs is expected to be approximately 200 jobs, which repeatedly were stated to be jobs that can support a family. The average wage is said to be about $35/hour.
Economic Stability
With potentially more than 200 jobs, and an average wage of $35/hour, this is likely to grow the local economy. Already having Purdue University nearby, CAT, SIA, Wabash National, and other great companies, adding GE Aviation to the roster only strengthens the economic stability of our area. As the workers who are paid a decent wage live in our area, obviously more money and jobs will enter into the economy. This is good news!
Much to be Proud Of
Hoosiers already had a great deal to be proud of. But this just added to the list. The L.E.A.P. engine is the most advanced technological engine that can be placed in a jet. Already they have 6,000 orders and they have not even begun serious production of these engines. They will be more fuel efficient, more quiet, and all around a more reliable engine. This gives more than just bragging rights on what the company offers, but on what our community offers. GE Aviation admitted that their process on deciding where to place the plant was a very strenuous process of considering multiple sites in multiple states with a number of factors that came into play. Ultimately, they decided that Lafayette Indiana offered the best place for growth, community building, and to run a profitable business. That certainly is something worth being proud of.
What This Means For You
