It's exciting that those Richmond Virginia winter blues definitely are heading behind us, and the resurgence of spring energy finally is here!  Recent sunny days really have helped inspire me to reach out to local residents while door knocking in Oregon Hill, one of Richmond's most interesting and historic neighborhoods!

Homes in Oregon Hill typically have a lot of charm and craftsmanship.

Oregon Hill homes typically are close together and allow neighbors to get to know one another.

The sunny weather yesterday helped lift my spirits and energy level.  How about yours?  I happen to enjoy knocking on doors and speaking with local residents on an individual basis.  Almost everyone has a story to tell.  Some residents even know a lot of detailed information on the history of their respective homes.

For example, I spoke with one particular Oregon Hill homeowner yesterday about his 1890 home, and he told me about the original owner and then also about his own family being involved with the home.  Listening to unique stories and family history within a neighborhood really helps add more dimension and charm to a community.

Philanthropy also is an important part of Oregon Hill's history.

Philanthropy also is a significant part of Oregon Hill's history that helped transform lives.

Tomorrow and Saturday I plan to continue door knocking and visit Pine Street and other areas of Oregon Hill.  Sometimes I find it to be very convenient to park my car somewhere on Cherry Street next to the historic and scenic Hollywood Cemetery.  Who would have thought two U.S. presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as other former dignitaries would be buried there? No wonder so many people visit Oregon Hill to explore and enjoy Virginia history.

One of several Virginia historic markers is shown here in Oregon Hill.

Several Virginia historic markers like the one above help explain the history of Oregon Hill.

Oregon Hill also is very pedestrian friendly.  I love seeing the various locally owned shops and other businesses in the area.  A lot of students happen to live in Oregon Hill, and some even end up purchasing a home there as an investment.  I would have to say that purchasing a home in this historic neighborhood in the majority of instances would make a great investment, and I've met several lot of long-time homeowners who enjoy living there, also.

Various shops in Oregon Hill are in close proximity to residences.

Various shops and businesses in Oregon Hill in close promixity to residences encourage walking.

Do you happen to live in Oregon Hill?  Then consider yourself to be very fortunate!  Perhaps, on one of these sunny spring days our paths will happen to cross, and you'll have your own fascinating story to tell about the neighborhood!
