Spring Break 2014!
For the first time in our boys lives we took a "Real Spring Break". Meaning to us we actually went somewhere warm! Carie and I decided late last year that we would take our boys to Disney Land and the beach in California. Now something like this is out of my and Carie's comfort zone. We don't travel a whole lot and when we do we are usually in driving distance. Before Spring Break came we asked the boys what they wanted to do. Our boys said (what we thought were great answers because they are things we like to do as a family) "How about some fishing, maybe camping but it might be too cold, let's go skiing and maybe the zoo". All great fun things! They had no idea what we had planned.
So, on the night before we left for California we told the boys at dinner to pack a travel back pack, we had a surprise for them. Their back packs have what ever toys, books, games, etc. they want to bring on any trip we go on. We had an early flight and had to leave Fort Collins at 4:30 AM. Carie had prepared two fun gift bags with some Disney items she was going to give them in the car (they slept all the way to the airport!). Once through security at the airport and in the terminal we finally gave the boys their gift bags! There was some excitement for certain but the early hour made it less than expected.
Once we arrived it was great, sunny and warm. We stayed at the Grand Californian on the Disney Land Grounds and had easy access to both Disney Land and the California Adventure Park. We worked everyone pretty hard the first day and really wanted to see the fireworks our first night as it was the only night they would happen while we were visiting. Needless to say being up a 4:00 in the morning and staying up until after 11:00 Mountain time we had some pretty tired people. The next couple days however were just a lot of fun. Our favorite Park was the California Adventure Park though. To enjoy most of the rides though make sure your kids are taller than 42"! We cut it pretty close.

We also spent one day at the beach near Newport Beach. The water was cold but the boys spent hours running in the waves. The temperature was in the mid 80's and the sand was soft and warm! We saw a seal in the waves cruising up and down the beach so close to people and they didn't even know! Luckily it wasn't a shark (as Finn said)! Anyway we would love to go back sometime and we would spend more time at the beach though!!
Have a great weekend! Mike.
