Westchester County 10708 has a flood watch Saturday night into Sunday evening, so check safety tips for a wet basement for wet carpet, flooring or a flood!
Hey all: The entire region is pretty much on a flood "watch," with a "Warning" expected tomorrow.
First we have polor vortex's and a snowy arctic winter that would not quit!

Now, our April showers may come early. I'd say the flowers and trees
are about to bloom and need the water, but all that ice and snow would
have kept them happy until summer!
* FLOOD WATCH FOR WESTCHESTER....all the way up to Janice in Newburgh and even Dutchess.
Here's what's going on, so you can plan the wet weekend: There's a low pressure system (RAIN) coming north with lots of moisture from the Gulf. It's going to push all this late March cold out, so that's good, and it's a WARM system, so no more snow -- thank the gods.
But, it's going to rain on Saturday afternoon for about 24 hours, with 2 - 3 inches over most of us -- so much for Open Houses -- and it could be heavy at times with a total of 4 inches by Sunday night.
With heavy rain on Saturday night into Sunday, we could be looking at up to 4 inches of rain total. That's 2 - 3 inches over most of us in the region, but flooding rains predicted for Southern Westchester. When will we have a life?
Small streams and Parkways like the Bronx River and Hutch could flood, so check the roads before you're stuck on them this weekend, if you're on the way to a good flick or your realtor's Open House! There may be significant "urban flooding" from poor drainage in Southern Westchester, even in well managed towns like Bronxville, NY 10708.
If your home or business takes on water and your basement or even a finished lower level floods, you need to deal with it as soon as possible. In about 48 hours, there could be odor and even microscopic growth -- that could lead to mold in a month or more.
Drying out your space and getting area rugs and children's toys off of the flooring is a good idea...first thing Saturday morning.
Some tips for preparing for flooding are below, but another site to check for warnings and watches in your area any time is: nyalert.gov -- this is today's alert:
PRECAUTIONARY /PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Again, any Flood Watch means there is a flooding potential forecast for the area. We need to check and be on the alert for the more confirmed "Flood Warnings...." if you are going to be driving in the area noted or your home is in a low or flood prone. Check local forecasts and take any actions for your family or staff's safety, if needed.
TIPS
A flood can be scary, but try to stay calm. The most important thing is to keep your family or company staff safe. But, if you have time:
- Turn off utilities at the main power switch.
- Move valuables, important papers and clothing to upper floors. If you have only one floor, put items on shelves, tables or countertops.
- Sanitize your bathtub and sinks and fill them with fresh, clean water in case the water supply becomes contaminated.
- If you feel threatened by rising water, leave your home or move to upper floors.
- Never try to drive through a flood. Six inches of water can cause loss of control and possible stalling.
- If you're in your car when the water begins to rise quickly, abandon it and move to higher ground.
- Don't walk through flood areas. Just 6 inches of water can sweep you away.
- Stay away from downed power lines.
