One of my favorite places to eat in Columbus Ga is the Bavarian House located on Whittlesey Road, behind the Main Street shopping ctr. I have to admit that I am partial to german cooking and Monika Washington the owner of the Bavarian House does an admirable job. If meat and potatoes don't drive you wild then maybe some of the fantastic german desserts will. The food is excellent and quite filling.

One fourth of the restaurant is a bar featuring the usual sports tv highlights and of course German and Domestic BEER. All of you familiar with schnitzel will really appreciate what the Bavarian House has to offer. Saturdays you will find a host of German ladies speaking in a variety of German dialects.

Good Food, Great Desserts and Beer, Wine and Spirits on occasion you will find a trio or quartet playing some of your favorite music. Octoberfest is reserved for live Polka music and dancers.

Look around when you come to visit, I'll be sitting on the right side, so stop and say hello.

I recently tried the food at Bavarian house and I will not be going back. I have had schnitzel in Gearmany, Austria, and the Chech Republic and this restaurant can not hold a candel to the real thing. I had the schnitzel because I like it so much, it was either a permade frozen product or someone does not know how to fry schnitzel. They did have good authentic gearman side dishes, but that was the only redeming quality to be found. I would not reccomend this resturant to anyone.

David, The best schnitzel I have had was in a Greek restaurant just outside of Frankfurt. For a more authentic schnitzel you will have to ask for the pan fried version. They do offer both. The breaded version is more popular. The meat is not frozen. Also the food is region specific (Bavarian) and possibly specific to a single city in the region. I come from the southern part of Germany, the food is similar but not the same that mom makes. If my recomendation sent you there, I am sorry for your bad experience.

I took my son there once, he loved the JagerSchnitzel, he killed it. We've been back again and he even made the ex take him back for dinner. If that kid is happy I dont know how you can go wrong. In fact he told me we have to go back for the Oktober Fest celebration this weekend.

I'm glad to hear your son likes the food so much. Can't go wrong with meat and potatoes. I still frequent the restaurant and my wife and mother are both great German cooks.
