Congratulations go out to Hudson Bend Middle School for Lakeway ISD and Gorgycki Middle School of AISD for being selected as 2014 Texas Schools to Watch!! Schools To Watch is a national program to recognize middle schools in the United Staes that meet or exceed the criteria defined by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.
Hudson Bend and Gorgycki are 2 of 7 Texas schools to be recognized. According to their site, the goal of the National Forum is “to make every middle grades school academically excellent, responsive to the developmental needs and interests of young adolescents and socially equitable.” Eighteen states participate in the program and 325 schools were honored this year. Recognition is for a three year period after which the school can apply again to be considered for additional designation. Schools submit an application detailing how criteria were met and who then host a state team to come observe, interview and review records and documentation. The other Texas schools recognized this year were Bailey Middle School (Spring ISD), Beckendorf Junior High (Kathy ISD), Beverly Hills Intermediate School (Pasadena ISD), Bowman Middle School (Plano ISD), Murphy Middle School (Plano ISD) and Simon Middle School (Hays CISD).
In the past several years many other Austin-area schools have been recognized. In 2011 Armando Chapa Middle School of Hays CISD was designated. Leander Middle School of Leander ISD and O. Henry Middle School of AISD were named in 2012, and last year Deerpark Middle School of RRISD was also selected a Texas School to Watch.
