ActiveRain... Welcome to the Trulia Family

Dear Rainers,

I’m pleased to be publishing my first post to the ActiveRain community. I’ve followed the community for years now and feel that ActiveRain was one of the hidden gems in the Market Leader acquisition last year.

I admire the passion and strong sense of community that you have built with ActiveRain. It’s an authentic place that was created with a lot of hard work by its members.

The value of the community is built on its foundation as a place where people can voice their opinions and share the experience of a life in real estate. And I appreciate the success people have found through blogging and building their professional network here.

As I step back and look at what you have built I think there are a lot of ways we can join forces. That’s why Trulia is working with the Active Rain team to forge a new path together. Since the acquisition there have been updates to improve the experience and effectiveness of the Active Rain site.

And as part of this process, ActiveRain and Trulia will be merged into one domain this week.  What this means is that you’ll see an additional word in the URL for your blog post, like this:

http://activerain.trulia.com/blogsview/4352793/a-bold-move-to-connect-you-with-more-consumers

We believe that combining Trulia’s 35 million consumer visits per month with the enormous amount of blogging content on ActiveRain is a great fit. We intend this to be a great move for both websites.

For example, as part of the process of merging the URLs we are making the ActiveRain community more accessible to consumers and agents from Trulia, encouraging more interaction and delivering more value to members. At the same time, the goal is to keep true to ActiveRain’s values as an independent community that encourages discourse and sharing ideas. Our goal is to maintain ActiveRain’s role as a great place for people in the real estate industry to connect and grow their businesses.

Ultimately, a stronger, more vibrant ActiveRain community drives value both to Trulia’s consumer audience that is hungry for real estate information and the Rainers that bring it to life.

So I’m happy to say, ActiveRain, welcome to the Trulia family, we look forward to being a part of your story moving forward.

Thanks,

Pete

The benefit of an ActiveRain account is that it can be indexed by search engines. However, how many people can afford the price for that one benefit? If it were closer to $10 a month, I would jump on it but I can't afford their current pricing. I am interested to see what will happen once this merger is complete.

Mr. Flint, I am truly hoping that this merging of the domain is one of many ways this relationship can be mutually beneficial now, and perhaps even more in the near future.

Looking forward to a great partnership with Trulia!  Just yesterday I told a client who has his home listed with me about this change.  I told him that my blogs, written 2 for his home, should be more powerful and garner more attention.  His expressions told me he's pleased with the change.  We are both looking forward to the sale of his home! Maybe a blog will do the trick?

Thank you for all the comments, questions, and support. For folks who are excited about the change, I’m glad you feel that way, because I do too. And as with any change it’s completely natural for some people to have some initial trepidation, so thanks for sharing your thoughts.

There were some questions from Joel and Carla about old links, google rankings, and profiles on Active Rain and Trulia. The FAQ in the original post from yesterday should help with some of that, otherwise, as Kristi mentioned you can contact support@activerain.com with questions about your account. In the meantime, we’ll be working closely with Bob, Kris, Kerrie, and the rest of the ActiveRain team to support this great community.

Georgie,

I'm very sorry for the commenting issues.

We have been checking this out today. If you run into issues, I would suggest you clear your cache and also clear out cookies in your browser from ActiveRain. We added some extra disk space to the database on Friday and it's possible this is an issue that jumped up because of that. When we have our full development resources available tomorrow morning we'll be working heads down to get things back to normal.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience!

(Hi Pete :-) )
