Good News.....It is Raining in SoCal but Still in a Drought?

It is Raining in SoCal but Still in a Drought?

Maybe my title was confusing as it is good news that it is raining but unfortunately we are still in a drought and a half day of rain will not get us out of the drought.

It is Raining in SoCal but Still in a Drought?

I will give us watered lawns and fields and make the trees green so that is a positive effect on the enviroment.

We will need a lot more rain to pull us out of the drought.

Here is my favorite photo today. Way up on a high lightpost overlooking the valley was a Red Tailed Hawk crouched down in the pouring rain.

Hi Praful,

Thanks for the words of confidence. I hope it helps too as we really need rain and snow melt.

Hi Larry,

The Rocky Mountains are beautiful and I am sure your snow melt will sustain your area. I am hoping our snow melt will do the same.

Kristin, even though northwest PA gets enough rain & snow most years I can feel your joy in rainy day.  As Joni said both CA & TX & most of southwest need rain.

Hi Mary,

It is always an exciting time for me when it rains. It washes the dirt off the greenery and everything looks clean and shiny for a new day. The birds like it to as the worms come out just in time for breakfast.

Yes, the weather has been crazy, to say the least, this winter. When the land is so dry that it cracks, the rainwater doesn't sink in and that is a problem out in California right now - I wish there was an easy solution.

Good to hear you are getting rain to help alleviate your drought. It may take a while, but the rain will catch up.

We are right at the edge of a drought according to the TV, but they get to specific on time frames. Averages and medians are just that, but they use the number like it is a required amount of rain.

Hi Kristin, It is amazing how much water Florida can absorb without leaving a drought phase!  Doesn't rain do great things for plant photos?

Kristin, I know it is great to see the rain and the earth is just drinking it up. Maybe with any luck it will continue and your drought conditions will lessen.

Hi Barbara-Jo,

Yes you are exactly right and then if we get a whole lot of rain, we have mudslides. I do not know what the answer is but I guess we need more snow then we are getting currently to help the water tables.

Hi Than,

I believe our water table is about 11% and that is not good and the dam in Folsom is almost dry.

Little rain, although doesn't fix the drought, is better than nothing :) I hope you stay safe Kristin :)
