During the warm summers in Scottsdale, many residents choose to escape to the higher elevations in Northern Arizona where it is quite a bit cooler. One of the favorite communities to escape to is Forest Highlands, located in Flagstaff, just off Route 89A.
The Forest Highlands Golf Club is an elegant, guard-gated, private golf community tucked away among the pines that is a convenient couple of hours drive from the Valley. While summertime is considered the high-season, some homeowners reside there year-round, where they can enjoy the skiing at the nearby SnowBowl. It is a very active and social community.
Forest Highlands is home to two award-winning golf courses, the Canyon course and the Meadow course. The Canyon Course consistently ranks near the top of national residential golf course rankings because of its beauty and play.
There are two clubhouses with pools on site for the members to enjoy. The Meadow Clubhouse also has a fitness center and during the high season, they offer day camps for children. There is a tennis complex and pro shop, as well as trails and walking paths all over the community. Stocked fishing ponds and play areas for children and grandchildren are also highlights.
During the summer months, the club puts on lots of entertaining holiday parties. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are celebrated with a community-wide BBQ with live music, great food and fun and games for the kids. On the Fourth of July, there is a fun parade that residents of all ages participate in. Following the parade, the Canyon driving range transforms into a large outdoor party. Beyond these parties, there is a very vibrant lineup of social events that many members participate in.
Forest Highlands is only a few minutes away from downtown Flagstaff and is just south of the Coconino County Fairgrounds, which hosts fun events, concerts and the annual county fair. Sedona, with its magnificent red rocks, is just a quick drive away going south on Route 89A.
There are a variety of real estate options for residents. There are several cottages throughout the property for folks looking for more of a seasonal home. You will also find custom homes in a variety of styles from contemporary, to more traditional, to log cabins. There are also residential lots for sale if you would prefer to build your own Forest Highlands home.
