Have you heard the rumor? Spring is here!
The snow has finally melted, the weather is getting warmer, and the days are getting longer. Pretty soon, we'll be complaining about the heat. Now is the perfect time to complete several spring home maintenance activities. Here's a list of suggested home checks for these warmer weekends.
Check gutters. Check for loose gutters and clean out the winter debris.
Check your home's foundation. Check around the house for low areas that could prevent water from draining away from the house. Build up these low areas to make sure water flows away from the house and not into it.
Check windows, doors, railings, decks. Repair any damage, recaulk and add weather stripping as necessary. Repaint and restain worn surfaces.
Check the roof. Look for broken shingles or other damage. Check the flashing for leaks.
Check the chimney. Look for cracks or damage. Have your chimney cleaned now so it's ready for next winter.
Check outside faucets. Turn the outside water on. Check for pipe damage by trying to block the water flow by holding two fingers over the faucet. If you can stop the water flow, you may want to have the pipes checked for breaks.
Get your air conditioning unit checked. It's time to have a professional come out and inspect your unit so it's ready for the hot summer months ahead.
Check your lawn equipment. Make sure lawn mowers are in good working order and sharpened. Lawn mowing season is just around the corner.
Wash windows. The sun is shining, the days are brighter. This is the perfect time to wash windows inside and out so you can really enjoy the extra daylight.
Check walks and driveways. Look for cracks or damage. Reseal and repair as necessary.
Check the outside dryer vent. Make sure the outside dryer vent is clear of built-up lint or other obstructions.
