This Winter seemed to be never ending; March seemed to come in like I lion and leave like a tiger!! However, one thing Old Man Winter cannot control is the passing of time and it is finally time for Spring! You may be anxious to begin your Spring Landscaping after being snowed in all Winter but there are a few steps you should take to prepare so your lawn and garden look fabulous for months to come.
The first step to Spring Landscaping should be preparing your lawn. You should remove and debris, animal feces, and leaves (which can cause snow mold). After the lawn is clear of all foreign objects it is a good idea to rake your lawn to loosen soil which will help when seeding and encourage air flow. Next you probably want to seed your lawn whether is be spot or general seeding.
When preparing for Spring Landscaping you may want to put some thought into what type of planting beds you would like to create. Generally there are three methods used to create beds: tilling, the smother method, or raised beds. Which ever method you choose to do be sure to spend time properly preparing before you seed to ensure the best growing all spring and summer long.
After you have properly prepped for Spring Landscaping it is now time to plant! Early spring is a great time to plant trees, shrubs, and hardy perennials. If you are choosing more delicate plantings in New England it is best to wait until late May to plant to ensure their survival.
