My First Real Estate Experience: Co-Listing a Mansion
I had my accounting degree and working in the accounting department at Kemper Insurance's big regional office on Peachtree Street in Atlanta and in 1974 had gone back to college to get my AA in real estate and had just gotten my real estate license.
I was still working in accounting but signed on part time with a local broker for part time RE sales. Back in accounting I had a good relationship with the big manager in LCE (Loss Control Engineering), whenever he would bring over his expense account we always had a good chat.
Well I told him about my new RE license and he happened to get orders to relocate and said he would give me a chance to list his home for sale if I co-listed with an experienced agent. He told me from the beginning that if the house didn't sell in the listing period, that he would have to list with another agent, he just wanted to give me a shot.
I hooked with up with a senior agent in my office and we went over and listed his home.
It was a very nice large two story traditional home on a park. I was frightened and had no idea of what to expect but the co-agent did her job and all went well.
My job was to update him of the activity on his home.
The house didn't sell but I always appreciated him giving me the listing and I did start to learn how to list and sell a home. Also how to keep an owner updated, no matter how painful that is.
