10 Things Real-Estate Agents Won't Tell You - Or Will They - #3

3.  Real estate agent commissions aren’t set in stone.

Let me just say this is…true!   It is also true that some real estate agents will never (never say never?) or rarely discount their commissions.

I know some agents who do, some who won’t, and seller beware because the old adage “you get what you pay for” may come into play.  In Lubbock, Seller’s and their REALTOR/Broker establish the amount of commission in the listing agreement.  If the agent you talk to quotes an amount you are not comfortable with, by all means ask if they can reduce their fee or commission but don’t get your hopes up and definitely find out what services they may NOT provide if they accept less.  Some agents have a varied commission structure depending on what all they do to sell the home.

I rarely discount my fee because I work HARD for my sellers and after splitting my commission twice (with buyer's agent and my broker) and after paying any expenses incurred in marketing a home, what I take home is earned and fair.  There is one instance where I will give a discount without you having to twist my arm!  If I do two real estate transactions for you in a year, I will offer you a discount!
