Referrals and do not call compliance

By
Real Estate Agent with John L. Scott, Bend

During a recent continuing education class the passing on of a clients number to a lender came into question. The client must give written permission for the number to be passed if the number is on the do not call list. Many times while working with clients we would discuss financing possibilities and I would request verbal permission to give a contact number to a couple of reputable lenders in the area. Now the permission must be in writing (if the person is on the do not call list) and I have taken to setting up appointments with lenders for the client and going along for the initial introduction.

Respecting the privacy of others is important but when will we go to far? Will we have a do not knock list in the near future?

I often have to explain this to folks who want to refer a buyer to me.  They call and ssy "would you please call my sister, she needs your help".  I have to tell them that the sister, or friend or son, etc. will have to call me.

Thank goodness for e-mail.  At least I can get e-mail to a lender to call someone.

This business is getting tough, when you follow the rules.
