Basement Homes For Sale

There are Basement homes for sale in Madison Alabama although not as many as can be found in other parts of the country.  For people relocating especially from northern areas to the Madison Alabama area they are surprised to learn about the over all lack of basement homes.

Reasons for fewer basement homes in Alabama range from a higher water table to the type of soil.  Some areas of Madison and the surrounding communities are very rocky making site preparation difficult and expensive to build basement homes.  Considering that Alabama does get severe spring and summer storms that often yield tornadoes, what is changing is the increasing number of homes being built with storm shelters that can be accessed from garage space, basements or specially designed safe rooms within the home.

While basement homes are more expensive to build than homes built on monolithic slabs or crawl space they are becoming more plentiful and desired.  Once the typical basement home was four cinder block or cement walls and generally was very utilitarian relegated to storage space and a place for mechanical systems.  As you can see in the photo below, basement homes are finished to a higher standard and level of finish.  New living space is being created that takes advantage of a parcels unique features such as sloped, steep or great views and adds to the overall finished heated and cooled living space in the home.

Nick, we do get incoming relocation buyers that are surprised 95% of our homes have basements.    Nice to have one for storage.

Nick each area of the country have different expectations for homes.  As you know here in Northeast a basement is expected, and homes without basements have a very hard time selling.

If basements aren't common in your area, this is a great segment of the market to talk about. Basements are almost non existant in my area. Nice work, Nick.

Interesting Nick. A basement is so nice to have and I know in areas like California or Florida do not usually have them. This should be a good selling point.

Nick-I'm guessing we have even fewer basements than your area. You are right about those relocating from northern areas are in many instances surprised that a basement is not a common feature here.

Good morning Nick. Where does anyone store their stuff without a basement. Now I get the idea, anyone that buys a home with a basement can store more junk.

Nice job with your report.

Good Morning Nick: For some reason, I am biased towards homes with full basement than homes built on a slab. It is the thought of refuge in case of natural calamities such as tornado.

That is a beautiful basement room you featured.

I once owned a 1200 square foot bungalow in Chicago, the living space was very small, but it had a full unfinished basement that pretty much doubled the square feet of the home.  I was able to add a rec room, storage area, a laundry room, a place to hide from the tornadoes and still had space left over...basements are good!

So much extra space in a basement home, Nick. We, of course do not have them here in sandy Florida.

Nick, That interior photo looks so much like some of the houses here in Clarksville. Basement are very popular here and some buyers will not buy without one.

Nick - interesting terminology since the majority of our homes are built with a basement it is not something we would use this way. To me a basement home is one where the basement was the home until there was enough funds to build the rest of the home (in the past not something we see today).
