Getting Out of Your Own Way

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain

In our quest for success we humans often get in our own way. We tell ourselves we can’t do something, we’re not good enough, or our idea just won’t work. Maybe we don’t make those cold calls, we just can’t get ourselves to say “no” or we continuously avoid asking for the sale. Regardless of how successful we may be, we all can get in our way.

What do you avoid doing even though you know it’d help you?

Like a couple of others have mentioned, I tend to avoid the paper work for my taxes. I again, have filed for an extension.

Making phone calls. I'd rather text or email and know that I'm not playing phone tag!

I see myself in a lot of these comments.  It seems we all avoid things we know we should do...taxes, calling our past clients, door knocking.  I do all of these things, however, I have to consciously make myself and it's not easy sometimes.  However, except for doing the taxes the other 2 always get me more business!

Reading through the comments, it's clear that I have succumbed to all of the issues!  At the root of all the issues is scheduling and prioritizing.  The busier I am, the more difficult the scheduling and prioritizing becomes!

~ it is hard NOT to be in our way at times, but with that said, we need to do our best to make a clear path.... When we tie our shoes and when there's a clear path "nothing" can stop us...So, thanks for the thought, because the more we look at "getting out of our own way, the better off we're

Calling my client list.  I would rather deal with e-mails and news letters.  I do it, but probably not enough.

Only sending out cards, calendars, etc. to my past clients and sphere of influence once or twice a year. I send them calendars in December, and maybe something at Easter. I should be sending them something at least 5-6 times a year -- and also calling them more often. Also, I avoid making a business plan, even though I know it's important to do that.

Definitely making those cold calls. I spend time prepping to call expired listings, and then half the time don't actually make the calls. I'm working on doing a better job of it.

I know that more marketing like postcards, door knocking and more social media exposure helps but we seem to get bogged down sometimes and do not have a monthly plan. Planning is a good way to stay on track.

I need to blog more often! I get caught up with my current deals and listings and I tend to put off my blog posts.

Right now I would have to say it is blogging. I have found that for the pst year I've been doing it in spurts and very sporadic spurts at that Consistency pays in blogging just like it does in almost everything else. I wish I knew what it would take to get me back to being a regular.

Because I have two "problems" I'm going to post another comment. I am not good about following up with contacts by phone. Emails...no problem.

I do not work my database as consistently as I could - I'm great at staying in touch with some people, but not with all.

Cold calling. I hate it. I get all clammy and queasy just thinking about it, but I know when I get started, it will be ok.

I know a great listing agent who has trouble asking for an offer when the time comes.  There seems to be something that stops some agents from knowing when it's time to close the deal.

I do not work my past clients or sphere of influence as much as I should. Nor do I do it as consistently as I should. I know doing this would help my business, and need to work on it.
