Neighborhood Parks and Trails in Gardner, Kansas. 

One of the things that draw people to a specific community or neighborhood are the parks, playgrounds and trails available for public use, the care and upkeep the facilities receive and the relative safety of those areas.  As a resident of Gardner, Kansas, I have always admired the way the Parks and Recreation Department cares for the recreational areas of the town. 

There are currently 11 parks with either playground equipment and/or walking/jogging trails that are available and open to the public.  These parks are scattered throughout the town of Gardner, Kansas, and are located in both the older as well as the newer sections of town.  The Gardner Greenway, a 1.6 mile walking/jogging/biking trail connects Winwood Park in the northeast section of Gardner and Brookside Park in the central section Gardner.  A creek runs next to the trail and there are 2 parking areas, one off Madison Street and one off Shawnee Street. Bridges cross the creek at several points allowing walkers, runners, or bikers to vary their routes or access Winwood Park without having to travel the entire 1.6 miles.  Dogs with their humans in tow are a frequent site on the Greenway, as are trash recepticals and benches.
