It's slowly gaining public attention, but likely you have not heard of the Heartbleed Open SSL bug that researchers at Google discovered recently. However, this bug is waking up tech and business people worldwide do to it's intrusive nature, inability to trace origins and it's potential uses.
It has been reported that the bug has likly infected upto 60% of all networks and computers and has been active for nearly 2 years. The bug is able to find your social security numbers, drivers license numbers, bank account numbers and more without you or the firms infected even knowing.
One person I talked to wishing to stay anonymous stated, "when it comes to banking, job resumes, paying taxes or any other sensitive personal information he thinks we may be going back to the age of paper". He states if a virus/bug like this can exist for 2 years and infect this many networks, businesses and computers, then there is no way we can ensure the data can ever be protected. He stated that immediately people should be at the very least resetting every password they have and try to save or protect those passwords via encryption.
Being in real estate, I used 40-50 maybe more websites, apps, etc. to run my business, market my listings and contact consumers and clients. I spent 4 hours yesterday updating every system to to protect myself and the people I work with. You should take this very seriously and do so yourself.
