You will need to call a plumber. Do not attempt this repair yourself.
This is what I wanted to tell the home owner.
But after he was telling me a story about how they had remodeled the kitchen. I didn't have the heart to tell him.
But it will be in the report.
I have seen this before.
Making changes and improving the homes looks.
Like adding a garbage disposal and not wiring it correctly.
Or a new sink and faucet that they didn't know was leaking under the sink.
Having good intentions.
Most home owners want to do things the right way. Most just don't have the skills necessary for the project they wanted to do.
It works don't it?
Just because it works does not mean it is correct by any means.
Take for example this sink that was installed. The plumbing simply was connected to the existing line. (No leaks)
But there is one major issue.
Look at the way the drain line goes up hill till it hits the drop or drain going down.
I see what they did. They wanted to utilize the elbow coming from the disposal. Instead of coming straight out with a tail piece from the disposal.
By doing the installation this way, they dropped the assembly way too low.
Now the complete assembly stays full of discharge water.
There is supposed to be water in the "P" trap only. Not the rest of the assembly.
I recommended a licensed plumber take a look at this mess and get it repaired.
I really wanted to tell the home owner this.
"You will need to call a plumber. Do not attempt this repair yourself".
