AFTER Your Mortgage Closing: Keeping the Lines of Communication Flowing

AFTER Your Mortgage Closing:

Keeping the Lines of Communication Flowing

This post, although specifically aimed at my mortgage clients, contains a message that can pertain to other service provider's customers too ...       The topic?  Communication!

Specifically, the lines of communication established during our Mortgage Process and Closing together ... and the great importance of keeping those lines of communication open after your Closing is over.

As your Mortgage Lender, I believe that one of the most important elements of the service I provide you concerns your mortgage and credit "education".  The better you're educated and informed as you enter and navigate your transaction, the better equipped you are to make sound decisions regarding your financing and Mortgage Process, but also your financial future.

I also believe that my mortgage services and the educational process I provide you should not end at the Closing table.  Nor should the communication flowing between us ...

As a result, on an ongoing and consistent basis after the Closing, I:   Email, snail mail, blog, use social media, call, text, and utilize every method of communication at my disposal to keep you (and my referral partners) up-to-date and informed as to the latest real estate, financing, and credit news.

Much of the info provided is client specific and addresses your personal financial scenario, interests, and needs.  The info and the ongoing service is FREE.  And is valuable.

Now, all of the above is how I HOPE to continue to assist you after your Closing.  But all too often, I begin to find that the lines of communication begin to fail.  Clients' emails change, as do other means of contact.  The helpful information and communications go unseen.  The potential benefits never realized.

So here's my plea:  Please ... keep me updated as to any changes in your email addresses, telephone numbers, social media, and etc.

I can't help you or provide beneficial info, if I can't find you or you don't open your messages.  Keep our lines of communication open, accessible, and flowing.  You'll be glad you did ...

Hi Gene, As usual, you are right on point, however, I don't see how you are going to change human nature. Most people are going to forget about you until the next time they need your services. Life happens. They do change their email adresses, their phone numbers, their mailing address. All without any thought to how it will affect your ability to communicate with them.

Good luck. The smart ones will continue to read your blog, at least.

Very good point Gene. Often in the Realtor side the agents do not do this and the home owners forget who their agent was by the time they go to sell again.

Gene excellent suggestion to our past Borrowers.  All to often a Borrowers contact info changes after the Closing.  It would be nice if they kept us informed.

Thank you, Ed & Tracy!

Winston:  Thanks so much ... that's appreciated!

Perfectly said, Jon .. and definitely true ..

Eric:  Yes, it's smart marketing ... but it's marketing that serves a very useful and important service and benefit for the client.  And it's FREE ... can't beat that ..

Bill:  It's an uphill battle, admittedly.  But maybe the few that DO follow this advice will gain.  Makes it worth the try ...

George:  True ... we CAN be helpful to them .. and we WANT to be.  We'll keep trying to get this point across ..

Tammy:  I LOVE that line!  Gets the message across ... with the twist of humor in it!

Gene this is such a good post. Sometimes we do lose track of clients in this fast paced world as they change their online contact info and 'poof' they're gone off the planet. We do our best to keep our data base up to date...and that in itself is a big task. Having clients help us with this would be awesome!

Gene - This is a really smart approach.  Keeping in touch is a win-win, and you have a smart approach.  Every month, I try to check my emails for bad email addresses, so that sometimes helps correct emails that have changed.

Post-closing communication is the key to repeat business and referrals. I can't tell you the name of the person who sold us our first home or did our mortgage, but I can defintely tell you who did our current mortgage and I refer business to him as often as I can.

Great Post, Gene. It seems most people think those involved in the home sale or purchase are just there for that project. Keeping in touch is beneficial for all.
Thanks for sharing,

Anna:  So often I hear ... we'll never move, or something similar.  But you just never know what the future holds for you and how having that one piece of info provided by your Lender (or agent) could help you save money or avoid problems.  Stay in touch!

Laura:  You always have such a positive outlook.  Thank you for sharing it ...

Kat:  You prove my point perfectly.  There are benefits to be found in continuing communications.  Friendship is a plus ...

Debbie:  Sounds like you're really on top of this effort.  We can all learn from your actions ...

Awwww, thanks Jared.  Appreciate the kind words.  But it seems I'm always seeing you write much the same thing.  Proving that good service and attention pays for both the client .. and the professional ...

Thanks, Ed and Tracy!

Michael:  I have some that are diligent about this .. others that must be "prodded".  We keep trying, right??

Kristin:  Obviously that first Lender missed out on many great opportunities by not staying in touch with you.  Exactly what I hope to avoid .. and I'm sure you do too ...

Richie:  What you say is so very true.  Much like the famous "it takes a village" approach .. successful real estate and financing transactions take the same teamwork effort.  You always get to the heart of my message ...

Paul:  You pair it down perfectly .. the message IS simply "stay in touch"!

Tg:  Exactly the thought and attitude we should all possess ...

Bruce:  True ... there are benefits for the client, so making the effort to stay in communication to receive FREE advice and service makes so much sense!
