Fort Collins Colorado Happiest City

By
Real Estate Agent with United Country Ponderosa Realty, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

Fort Collins, Colorado was ranked  amongst the nation’s 10 happiest cities by a Gallup poll released last Friday.

These cities ranked with Fort Collins in the top five: (1st) Lincoln, Nebaska, (2nd) Boulder, CO; (3rd) Burlington-South Burlington, VT; (4th) Provo-Orem, UT

Fort Collins-Loveland residents were more satisfied with the city or area in which they live than other cities polled according to today’s edition of the Northern Colorado Business Report.

In 2013, Fort Collins ranked 13th as one of the happiest cities in America by Twitter- based on the number of LOLs and fewest swear words.

Besides having a robust economy, culture, parks entertainment, Colorado State University, lovely tree lined streets, bike paths, and trail systems.-  - I can’t help but think that people in Fort Collins are happiest because of the close proximity to outdoor recreation; like waterskiing at Horsetooth Reservoir, white water rafting in the Poudre Canyon, or camping, hiking and fishing in Red Feather Lakes for instance….:-)

People in Red Feather Lakes/Livermore are pretty happy too! I would not want to live here without a city nearby and when I lived in the city it was always nice to get-a-way to the mountains.

Located just 45 minutes from nearby Fort Collins I think our mountain area and the city help each other out on the happiness scale!

Congratulations Fort Collins, Colorado- you’re looking good!

Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower

Hi Jeffrey, I think you could be happy there too----they have a lot, but no beach!  I'm not sure about the polls either, but it's nice to be mentioned in a positive light. Thanks for coming by to visit!

Hi Mary, and yes I think you are on to something about your great outdoors and natural beauty surrounding the area having something to do with the rankings.

Yes, I remember my first LOL that I ever used was on your blog!!!

LOL (laughing out loud) Bruce!  Your LOL (lots of livestock) goes with Fort Collins . In fact, when we first moved to Fort Collins in 1976, part of the CSU campus' bull farm was right in the middle of town.  By the time we moved here in 1996, it had been relocated as the city had grown by leaps and bounds!  Thanks Bruce, nice to see you again!

Hmmm...what an interesting rating system.  I think you are definitely right about all of the stress relieving things to do out there that make everyone so relaxed and "happy!"

These sound like all cities where major colleges are located, so of course they are happy places because everybody, meaning mostly students, are either drunk or stoned. Except for maybe Utah.

Thanks Debra- I'm just positive that's it!:-)

Elizabeth, I don't know this, I can only speak from personal experience...but college aged students  are generally a pretty happy go lucky group- but drunk or stoned? nah, that just couldn't be the reason- for Fort Collins it's because of the close proximity to Red Feather Lakes! LOL

Mary you are probably right that the residents of Fort Collin are so happy because of the proximity to outdoor activities.  Congrats to Fort Collin!

Mary, this was such a GREAT localism post!! Do you have a small paper that you could write for? This would be one of those articles that you could use in other places. I write for a small Vernonia paper and since I'm writing blogs already, and catch a different audience with the paper, it's kind of a two-fer.

I LOVE the moose photo and caption! (Is it okay if I "pin" it on one of my Pinterest Boards? I would give you credit).

Hi Jennifer, I'm pretty sure that's the reason :-)

Hi Gayle, sorry to come back to this so late- your small paper sounds like a great way to share ideas and information!  Pin away Gayle and thanks for the credit!

Thanks William!  Fort Collins has a lot going for it.

Hello, Inna, I was talking to man in our office the other day who was looking for some mountain property- he made it clear the he CHOSE Fort Collins for his famiy. In fact, it used to be called the Choice City (maybe it still is)  Not sure about L.A., but so many people live there, they must like it, right? :-)

Thanks everyone for stopping by, I appreciate it!

Those moose do look pretty darned happy, Mary.  And, I don't doubt that Fort Collins is pretty happy....now that that craft beer fad is taking off all over!  And, the revenue that will pour in from the medical marijuana crowd should keep the taxes lower, too!

Don, I am not getting email notifications on my posts--for some reason.  I apologize!  The craft beer industry is strong in Fort Collins, there are many good brewers. Now we don't just have medical marijuana, but recreational use too- we'll see how that impacts taxes.  The moose is happy, he doesn't care about any of it! LOL
