An Interesting  Rest Stop on Texas  IH-35

Hill County Rest StopTwo interesting rest stops are  located on Texas IH-35 between Dallas/Fort Worth and Waco. They are  around mile marker 281/282, depending if you're going north or south. Yolanda Gilbert created a post earlier this week highlighting some European windmills.

The windmill concept and other farm implements are used in the design of these rest stops. These rest stops opened late last year are are a big improvement of what used to pass for rest stops. These stops are wellWindmill at IH-35 rest stop lit, clean, and monitored by on staff attendants and video feeds provide additional sets of eyes.

Not a bad use of the gas tax money, in my opinion.

Lot different from an earlier era when, even though I'm as manly as anyone, at certain rest stops I was only comfortable making a stop if I had flank security and a couple of guys from my platoon in the 173d Airborne. A modern rest stop on IH-35 in Hill CountyOf course now there are lots of places to get refreshed along the highways. No shortage of food or drink along IH-35 between San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth these days. There is now a Buc-ee's (an empty calorie paradise) plus around sixty gas pumps near New Braunfels.

If you are looking for a great San Antonio home, don't tilt at windmills. Call Wayne, 210-483-6329, to help you with your search.

Good morning Wayne. Texas is certainly ahead of the curve when it comes to the way money is invested and spent.

Wayne-Now that's a rest stop. If I familiar with the stops along my route I will typically stop at rest stop that has a big view or something interesting. I would definitely stop at one on IH-35.

Elite-Thanks for checking in.

Joe-That's a reasonable expenditure, but there have been some boondogles along the way too.

Joan-Agree since I try to avoid lots of fast food on road trips, we'll pack something healthy to munch on at a road stop.

Adrian-Thanks for checking in.

When we lived in Los Angeles, we had family in Florida and drove back and forth several times (25-30 years back). Texas rest stops were the worst. I remember one that was basically a hole in the ground, no hand washing facilities, nasty. These sound like a tremendous improvement, Wayne.
