About Lakewood, CO

While the city of Lakewood is one of the larger ones in the Denver Metro area it has managed to retain much of its small-town flavor. Lakewood is in a prime location, where you see both the golden dome of the Colorado State Capitol to the east, and snow-capped Mt. Evans to the west.

With plenty of urban amenities and an abundance of outdoor recreation, Lakewood is perfect for the person who wants to be close to it all. Nearby Bear Creek Lake Park provides you with the opportunity to go fly fishing, horseback riding, and hiking. If golf is more your style be sure to check out nearby Fox Hollow Golf Course, which was voted the number one public course in the state and is the first golf course in nation that was designed to accommodate golfers with disabilities.

The West Line Lightrail Station & New Contruction

City growth has been enhanced through careful zoning of residential and business environments for a balanced and attractive suburban atmosphere. An example of this has been the construction of the RTD West Line Lightrail, which opened in April 2013.

This new lightrail line provides riders (which number around 14,000 daily) with easy access all the way from the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden to the heart of Denver. This new lightrail line has been well received by locals in the area and the city of Lakewood has taken notice. They are currently in the process of building pathways to encourage the flow of bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the city's seven light-rail stations.

Lakewood is commited to creating a more walkable/bikable atmosphere for residents and some upcoming construction plans demonstrate their dedication to this task. The purchase of 10 small sections of private property to improve bike and pedestrian access to the Lakewood-Wadsworth and Oak stations was recently approved and the city also has future plans for a new sidewalk to be built. The new sidewalk is set to begin construction at the end of May 2014 and will run from the Lamar Station to 14th Avenue on the east side of Lamar Street.
