A couple months ago, I posted a blog about Unique Closing Gift Ideas. Since that time, I have experienced the benefits of receiving a gift that is not only unique, but also long lasting. So, let’s talk a little bit about what types of gifts you should and shouldn’t be giving.
Stop wasting money on gifts that DON’T last:
A bottle of wine is an excellent way to celebrate a sale. It’s thoughtful and delicious; however, once it’s gone—it’s gone. Your token of appreciation is enjoyed and then simply thrown in the trash. In other words, once it’s gone, your name and services are out of sight and out of mind.
The same goes for any food-type gifts and gift certificates: cheese baskets, fruit baskets, restaurant or hardware store gift certificates, etc--they all get used and forgotten.
Start investing in gifts that DO last:
A couple weeks ago, a recipe of mine was chosen to be featured in a recipe calendar for Magnets USA. To show appreciation for my recipe, Magnets USA awarded me a Chef Knife from LifeLong Cutlery.
I have not stopped using that knife ever since. It is the best knife I own. I use it every time I cook—which is a lot. Every day, you can find me in my kitchen slicing, chopping, and singing Magnets USA’s praises for giving me something I actually need.
Not only is it useful, but my name is engraved on the handle and a “Thanks for sharing your recipe” message is engraved on the blade. Now, every time I use my chef knife I think of how much I appreciate Magnets USA for making my time in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable. I never knew I could slice apples so thin!
Why gifts that last are better:
It seems pretty obvious doesn’t it? We all know that giving a gift that lasts is better; it’s common sense. However, a gift that lasts isn’t the only important aspect: a gift that lasts AND is useful means your clients will be thinking of you often, as well as thanking you often for giving a gift they will come to love.
LifeLong Cutlery offers keepsake gift packages that are perfect for real estate agents. When you order a keepsake gift package the knives are shipped straight to you—gift ready in a beautiful piano-style keepsake box with a sharpener and friendly note. All you have to do is hand the gift to your client!
Knives can be engraved with the client’s name, or your name—as well as your contact information and/or logo.
What are you waiting for? Stop wasting your money on closing gifts that aren’t helping you build better relationships and gather referrals.
