Ever have a situation where you feel like the more you give, the less you get?
This can be true in all kinds of situations in life. Whether it is the family or a friendship; relationships are difficult at times. The same is true about real estate negotiations.
Real estate is all about relationships. We hear this all the time. How often have you really thought this through, however. As agents and brokers working many deals over a career, we encounter times when a seller will take a low offer because they like the buyer. OR, the opposite can be true as well. A buyer will give more than what a home is worth because they like the seller. It is about relationships.
When negotiating in a deal where neither of these scenarios is true, we have to try to understand the mindset of the other party. Sometimes, the more we give, the less we get. We must come from a position of strength if we are to negotiate well. In other words, whoever has the most to lose, usually does. Emotions always play into negotiations. The party most involved emotionally will usually lose more than the party with less to lose.
Just a few tips in negotiating a good deal for all.
