Its a phone----not a typewriter

Real Estate Agent with RETIRED 200305001

I want too many times to scream this at others. As many know I was against smart phones because all I saw was people messing with them all the time. As I mentioned in a post a few months ago, I did not want to become one of "them".

Now that I have had a smart phone a few months, "I can't imagine life without it".

The way I kept from becoming one of "them" is to have the Email beeper turned OFF. I check emails every 2 hours, I don't need to be a slave to it. If its urgent, CALL ME!

Its a phone, NOT a typewriter. Your Thoughts?

Rob, when I got my first Blackberry, I had 10 email accounts set to Beep.  That thing would never stop beeping!  Like you, I silenced it.

The thing I love about my smart phone is that I can dictate messages and emails. I don't have to type. The thing I do hate is the sound notifications that I have email, texts, and news update coming in. As soon as I learn how to turn that puppy off I will. I miss my iPhone... but at least I can read the font on my new Samsung.

Sussie: My phone is a samsung Galaxy mini. If you tap to the left of the button on bottom it should take you to more settiings.

Smartphones are a blessing and a curse. It's best to find a nice balance or you really do become a slave to it. It must be silenced at times!!!

Hi Rob, It's is funny, back in the early 80's the thoughts of using a PC just didn't excite me, in fact I was actually intimidated.  Technology has come such a long way, yes you can be married to a smartphone.  I have to agree with you about urgent matters, a phone call is best.

I agree we should find a balance. I love my smart phone but turn it off at night.

It takes less time to respond to a text or email than a phone conversation, having said that, you still need to talk to people,  this is a face to face business.

I must say I am bad at having a boundary when it comes to checking my emails. I agree it isn't a typewriter though. I will read an email on my phone but rarely answer them until I am at my computer. The phone keys are tooooooo small! LOL

I check emails about every 30 minutes if I'm not with a client.  It has become a habit and there have been times that I turned out to be important to be prompt in checking them.    I usually prefer written communiction over a phone call, makes it easier to document.

I use the Galaxy Note 4 - it isn't a phone or a typewriter, it is a phablet (hybrid phone and tablet). ;)
