I am reading the original 1937 version of "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.
If you're wondering why the book sounds familiar, this book is the part of the foundation for the phenomenon "The Secret."
I was struck by a certain passage and couldn't help but compare the words of 1937 to the world of real estate today:
"...the majority of people who live by the sale of personal services make the
mistake of considering themselves free from the rules of conduct and the
responsibilities attached to those who are engaged in marketing commodities...
The day of the "go-getter" has passed. He has been supplanted by the "go-giver.
High-pressure methods in business finally blew the lid off."
In the changing market, we've all heard the stories, we've read the stories on line. Rules of conduct seem to be going out the window. We have brokers with the ethics of an alley cat, snakes at open houses, and lenders stealing clients.
It makes you afraid to think what will be next.
But, it seems clear - history will repeat itself. The days of the "go-giver" will once again pervail - in this market and in the market we are moving into.
Doing the right thing never seems to go out of style.
