I LOVE SPRING TIME. The Landscaping Comes Alive. Sadly, Much Was Lost Due To An Extremely Harsh Winter.
Spring is everywhere in the air in Lovettsville. Bulbs are blooming. Just drive around on weekends and observe the Lovettsville home owners tending to spring landscaping needs and making repairs to their homes.
Outdoor chores we attended to at my Lovettsville home this past weekend include:
1. First grass cutting of the year. It wasn't too tall, about 4.5-5 inches. We cut it back to 4 inches. I'm hoping that the generous length will discourage weed growth without the use of chemicals.
2. Removing dead shrubs from the landscaping. This is a cause of real sadness. I lost many lovely shrubs due to the extreme and extended cold, windy winter. If I had had just a few wonderful shrubs, I'd have covered them. Sadly, I believe I lost about 25 good shrubs. Primarily dwarf pines and yews. They've always wintered very well. This winter was extremely harsh, on folks and on landscaping. I'm so glad to see and feel the spring sun and warmth. I suspect that the landscaping is too.
The dead shrubs are simply got a respectful burial in a trench on one side of my lot.
The above was once a thriving beautiful Shrub. Oh well.
NOW, we're planting new life into the landscaping beginning with Coral Bells and Gladiolus.
I love Coral Bells. They'll be a lot smaller than the previous plantings, but the lovely color and blossoms.
