This is exciting news .. and what a great idea! Timely, cost saving! Thanks for sharing this info ...
Gene
Inna,
This stuff is pretty amazing and when commercialized will be a total game changer for making houses greener. Thanks for stopping by and reading![]()
Gene,
Hey it's great to hear from you. Great info huh, it's pretty amazing where we're headed with technology and it's applicability in our lives and homes. Hope you're doing well out there
Alex, this really is exciting news, I'll stop by their website to check them out.
Jill,
Thanks for commenting, yes it's incredible what we're doing with technology to integrate into our lives for the better. All the best to you out there, I hope you crush it
While right now it obviousely isn't cost effective to use these vs. just pay for electricity, I imagine a world where all the high rises in major cities are 100% made of these windows instead of traditional ones. Imagine the savings to the grid if that were the case. The downside is that they have to be "tinted" since it is capturing some of the visible wavelengths and converting to electgricity, but most office buildings are tinted anyways.
Wow! Pretty amazing - and interesting - stuff. I hope these wireless solutions are ubiquitous before the wired infrastructure totally falls apart.
Thanks for sharing,
Bruce
Good choice but not practical - - at least NOT YET, one day, these materials will become as cheap as regular glass, and yes, if one building could generate or harness its own electricity - - that would mean great great savings and looking at the source, solar, it is friendlier to the environment. The only problem that I am seeing here is IF IN CASE these Panels would be common and sell cheap / affordable for any household or establishment to buy, the maintenance cost would still cost a lot > regularly. Still a good proposal though
Rod,
Thanks for reading, I think you should write about this and feel free to cross reference my post here with yours. I think the technology and its discovery is amazing.
Eric,
Clearly they're not cost effective yet, but like any innovation it'll be a matter of time before it becomes a commodityand very affordable.
Michael,
Clearly it's just in the disovery/R&D phase, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Google fetches this up quickly, much like they did with the NEST thermostats.
Sounds fantastic if it can be done financially feasible. New construction would easy but to rewire an existing house might hurt your pocketbook.
What a great technology this will be! Not only for homes, but for cars as well.
Solar energy has come down in price a lot and the technology is advaning. It is sad that Oklahoma politicians want to keep us addicted to fossil fuel so they are putting a tax on people who adopt solar. Crazy.
Paul,
These are very early stages, as with any technology it'll be expensive at first and get very cheap over time
Tammy,
My last home was completely green with solar, it's amazing the savings you see and how low your bills are, you almost double take (in a good way) when you see how low everything is![]()
Georgie,
Thanks for stopping by and reading, great point, think about electric cars recharging themselves.
Joe,
That is a shame, we just had the largest solar energy deal the Dept of Defense has ever done happen here in AZ at Ft. Huachuca, it'll be the largest solar farm in the US, definitely archaic thinking.
This certainly is an interesting concept. I hope we see more and more solar optons at affordable prices.
Alec, I look forward to learning more about this technology. This sounds like a good solution for Texas.
Thanks for sharing about the new solar window panels. Unless solar is built in to an existing home there are many problems and issues installing solar after a home is built, and it is expensive to do.
That is awsome. I think solar technology is very under utilized here in the desert.
Sharon,
Thanks for stopping by and reading, while it's still in its infancy its a great concept that will prove very valuable
Pamela,
I agree to a point, naturally it's cheaper to do it while the home is being built, however, I had a neighbor who did it and it was quite painless
Alex, what if they created a solar panel window that could be a shade screen where you can see out but people can't see inside? Now that's a triple threat!
Jack,
I like your thinking, multi purpose and green
Thanks for stopping by and reading. Hope you have a great year
I'm in the other land of sunshine, southwest Florida and always wonder why more isn't done to harness the sun. ... I mean if money, taxes and politics were removed from the situation.
Alex, I can see where this would have commercial building applications with all the glass they are currently using.
Laura,
They already do, check out Apple experimenting with a clear screen so you can see through the phone while texting, it's pretty crazy:

Chris,
Thanks for reading and commenting, there's always the "capitalistic" factor right. Someone has a "vested" interest
Nice subject, my search engine is worn out. Bring the emphasis back to the hard sciences in our schools.
Rod,
I agree with you and thanks for sharing the info you blogged about. I've said it over and over, there's a vested financial interest to stop such technologies coming out sooner, however, with google buying home products such as NEST, they can't compete with that kind of technology and informational power
Dwight,
Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog, hope you crush it this year in RE
It is absolutely amazing technologies! I've never heard of them. Thanks for sharing!
I hope to see such windows in California very soon.
