Beware of low voc and zero voc paints!!!  These products are designed to free of chemicals that cause outdoor air pollution, but still contain dozens of human health hazards!!  That lack of smell...paint companies use masking agents to hide the chemical fumes.  Do more research, don't just buy into the hype.  The only paint available that is free of human health hazards in AFM Safecoat.  Ask your paint retailer to bring it in.

My city is requiring "green points" for new developments and I know that eco-friendly paints are one way that builders are going about getting points.

Andrew,

I'm not sure if what you are saying is terribly accurate. Low and No VOC paints have been tested by many 3rd party groups and government agencies, and while it is correct that some do contain higher levels of formaldehyde and other known carcinogenic or hazardous chemicals than expected, many are very low in these (some containing no noticable traces), and all are a significant improvement over "traditional" smelly paints - and that lack of odor is not simply due to a masking agent.

I would be curious as to where you are obtaining that type of information - it could be based on a study of a specific companies paint. In which case, i would love to know about it so as to stay away from it.
