Just hanging around the home. Not good. Home inspection electrical.

It is amazing what we find when inspecting homes.

In many cases the home owner was not the best person to be handling the "Electrical work" within the home.

My guess is that the owners wanted to save money and "Not pay" for an electrician to do the electrical work in the correct way.

Just hanging around.

The first plug box I found just hanging around was at the furnace plug assembly.

Take a look at the way the plug was in the furnace closet.

Then when I got to the Laundry area. There was additional plugs that were just hanging around.

Plug in laundry closet. Second plug in laundry room.

Why these plugs were even located where they were was not known.

I also noticed that there was no covers for them either.

Not a good thing when being used around water.

I recommended they install the boxes correctly, then replace the plugs or breaker with a GFCI plug or breaker.

Some things are not supposed to be when living in a home. But what makes it worse is that none of these issues were taken care of prior to the home inspection taking place.

Safety first. It's always important to get a certified electrician to do the work. I remember a client of mine who was going to ask a family member to install GFCI outlets in the kitchen. I told her the contract requires a licensed professional to do it. Plus, just imagine if it wasn't done correctly and someone got electrocuted! It's always important to air on the side of caution.

It still surprises me that people attempt to do this kind of electrical work on their own. They have no idea the danger they're putting themselves into. Or they do, and choose to ignore it.
