Summerville, SC Lowcounrty-Life is a great place to experience.  Summerville is also known as Flowertown in the Pines. According to 2010 US Census, Summerville has a population of 43,392.  It has grown by nearly 43% in 10 years and currently has 16,181 households with 18,557 housing units.  Summerville is situated on 18 square miles approximately 24 miles NNW of Charleston.  It is the 7th largest city in South Carolina.  It was originally settled as a summer location for plantation owners in Charleston as a way to escape the blistering heat and swamp fever.

The town of Summerville maintains a nice website with access to information about the town such as parks, attractions, town ordinances, business license, town council, updates on construction, community development, and improvements going on around the town, etc.  

The town offers some great amenities for those who live and visit Summerville.  Free Wi-Fi and free parking are available in the Town Square area for all to access while visiting their favorite businesses or attractions.  A new skateboard park just opened on Berlin G. Myers Parkway and Richland Street.  The Gahagan Sports Complex and play area is a huge attraction for sports enthusiast and those seeking recreation programs.  Many other parks and recreational areas are located throughout the town.  You can even get fantastic locally grown produce and handmade items at the farmer’s market from April to November. 

Summerville also offers great dining opportunities from your quick fix fast food restaurants to fine dining.  There are a number of well-known national chains, but for a more intimate dining experience you’ll find Oscar’s, The Red Pepper, Continential Corner, The Eclectic Chef and The Ice House.  For large parties, Summerville features Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse and Mellow Mushroom which is a well-loved Charleston favorite.

Summerville is also well-known for a few other things.  It is known for being the first city in the US to ban cutting down trees of a certain size.  The largest festival in South Carolina known as Flowertown Festival happens the first weekend of April, just as the many azealea plants are blooming with an array of spring colors.  The festival attracts more 100,000 visitors.  The origins of sweet tea are believed to have happened in Summerville.  The historical significance of Summerville is still rich today amidst the parks and other attractions that bring it back to life. 

Summerville is a great place to spend time with friends and family.  This town truly depicts that of what the locals call "Lowcountry-Life".  Take time to visit and expierence all Summerville, SC  has to offer.
