If you still think Austin is a small town, you are in denial!
Bill Evans our Austin Board of Realtors President stated the morning: “If you still think Austin is a small town you are in denial.” PT50 hosted an exclusive “Awareness Breakfast” at the Headliners Club featuring George Zapalac as guest speaker. George is the Division Manager at the City of Austin Planning and Development Review Department.
His topic “Overhauling Austin’s LDC” was enlightening to say the least! Austin’s current Land Development Code hasn’t been rewritten since 1984 and they are tackling the revamping to ensure the successful growth and expansion of Austin as we ride the wave of accommodating all the new residents descending into Austin. This is a huge undertaking and one that needs input from all residents and is not an easy process. Please check out their website.
The intent is to simplify issues and to make appropriate changes and clarify ambiguities. Taking appropriate steps to preserve our communities and add more mix-centers is imperative if we are going to address our traffic congestion and simplify our lifestyles to accommodate our cities growth.
Many are concerned that ultimately the City Council will be in charge of implementation of the Code Change. They are in the midst of a total transformation and few members currently on the City Council will be in place when the Code Adoption will take place in November 2015-October 2016. As citizens apprehensive on how our City will look with 95,000 more cars on the road in 2 years we need to voice our concerns and help make good choices!
Thank you Amber Thomas, President of Austin PT50, for making events like this possible for us to be kept informed and communicate this information to our friends, neighbors and communities we serve.
