COME OUT HELP THIS LOCAL HORSE RESCUE, SATURDAY APRIL 26TH 10-3PM
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – The Bit O’ Luck Horse Rescue farm already helps saves horses, but it’s now asking for some help for itself to hopefully expand.
Bit O’ Luck is competing for a chance to win a $10,000 grant from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The group is asking for the public to come out to the farm this coming Saturday and show support for the organization and the work it is doing.
There are 11 rescued horses now at the farm that has been taking in horses-in-need since July 2009.
A horse named Willie was the first and was in bad shape.
“He was probably within about six weeks of not being in this world anymore,” said Greg McCormack.
McCormack takes care of the horses and helps run the nonprofit organization.
Walk with him around the pasture where the horses are out grazing and it seems each horse knows McCormack is someone who cares.
He readily admits it. “I guess probably the reason I do what I do is because of the horses.”
But that care comes at a cost. He estimates it costs $15 a day to take care of each of the 11 horses and that does not county vet bills that can be pricey.
Winning $10,000 from the ASPCA would help.
“It would put some money in the coffers and take the strain off of us,” McCormack said.
The money would help with equipment and most importantly would allow the group to help rescue additional horses.
“The eventual goal is to finish their rehab and find them homes,” said McCormack.
Anyone interested in showing support can come out and celebrate Help a Horse Day between 10:00am-3:00pm, this Saturday, April 26.
Bit O'Luck is located at 12007 McCord Road in Huntersville.
