What make a blog or newsletter a MUST read?

What make a blog or newsletter a MUST read?

Earlier this week, I noticed that I haven’t seen any updates in my email box from my favorite blog – Photography for Real Estate.   I went to the website and saw that I missed several posts.  It turns out that somehow, my spam filter decided that they were spam.  I fixed the problem.  This incident got me to thinking about what I liked so much about that particular blog that I actually noticed that I wasn’t getting it.  I also considered the other newsletters and blogs that I almost always take the time to read.

For me, these blogs and newsletters are:

  1. PhotographerConsistent:  I generally know if something is published once a week or almost daily.  I start looking forward to the next installment.

  2. Focused:   I know that the Photography for Real Estate blog is about photography for real estate.  The Texas Real Estate Center provides weekly market updates.   I don’t expect to find recipes or weather reports.

  3. Contain Great Content:

What about you?  What makes a blog or newsletter a must read for you?

Sincerely,

 Sondra Meyer Peterson, CPA

Genuine information, consistent, yet spammy titles in an email will generally get me to unsubscribe.

Sondra, obviously content makes a huge difference, but I also look forward to certain bloggers because I just enjoy reading their stuff! Some people have a certain style that resonates with me. Maybe it's a consistent length or quality of writing or even their sense of humor!

Usually, I only get spam for newsletters, but I am in a dying trade...the antiques business.  There are two blogs I do check out from time to time on lawn care and bird interest.  And, one is the Cornell Orinthology Center.   The other is the Audobon Newsletter.   But, I don't subscribe to either one.

Sondra.  I like newletters that make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.  To do that - they need to have done something for others.  Especially animals!!!!

Sondra, So many different things for me:  entertainment, education, friendly, well written.  The folks that write controversy for the sake of controversy lose me, and those that are rude to their commenters lose me.  Bill

Sondra... your points are spot on. Well written content that's easy to digest is critical for me. But in the end, for me it's still "do I have the time to read" something.
