Kentlands Film Society
The Kentlands Citizens Assembly distributed the following notice for the Kentlands Film Society. This is a good time to meet new and old friends and have an enjoyable evening watching the film and then participating in the discussions. As you plan your weekend, do not forget that the annual Kentlands Day festival is scheduled on Saturday, May 3rd.
The Kentlands Film Society will be screening the French-Canadian film,
Monsieur Lazhar, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gaithersburg Arts Barn.
Subscriptions for the 2014 - 2015 Kentlands Film Society Season will go on sale that evening at the reception preceding the film in the Arts Barn foyer beginning at 6:15 p.m. Subscriptions cost $40.00 each for the series of 5 films.
A limited number of walk-in tickets for the May 4 showing cost $8.00 and are available from 6:15 p.m. on the night of the movie or can be reserved by contacting Chris Kelly at cbkelly23@hotmail.com or 240-447-4655. All are welcome to participate afterward in the "Critics Corner" discussion where insights and views are shared.
An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film, Monsieur Lazhar tells the poignant story of Bachir Lazhar, a 55-year-old Algerian immigrant, who becomes a substitute teacher in a Montreal middle school when a class is shaken by the death of their teacher. The film presents wonderful performances, especially from the ensemble of child actors.
