I'm a High "S" with a Low "I". How Will I Ever Make it in Real Estate?

For those of you out there who have no idea as to what I'm writing about I will explain. Have you ever heard of the DISC Personality Assessment? It's a assessment you take to see what type of personality you have or behavioral types you exhibit. It's used in many companies to help improve communication, teamwork and work productivity.

This is the second time I've done this profile test and the results have been the same both times. I'm a high S with a low I. That means I'm at the top of the S quadrant of steadiness, sincerity, patient (I'm not really that modest), and I'm at the low end of the I quadrant of optimistic (sometimes), friendly, and enthusiastic. So my personality or behavioral type is Steadiness with some Influence.

More than half of the agents in my group who took this assessment have high D personalities. They are direct, driven, competitive and dominant. One agent had only D behavioral traits. Based on this test, I was told that it's easier for "D" type agents to work in real estate sales. After all, they go into the listing appointment gun's blazing and get the seller to sign the contract quickly and off they go. They waste little time before they are on to the next appointment.

Well, I'm a high S with a low I personality. How am I ever going to make it in real estate? I'll tell you how. The exact way I've been doing it for the past 2 years. I use my training and I figure out what type of seller/buyer I'm working with and I adjust my behavior to match theirs (as best I can). If they say they are unsure and nervous I use more of my "S" traits in the meeting. If they are wanting to see the housing sales numbers or talk price right away I dig deep and find my "inner D or C" traits.

I will mirror and match the client to the best of my ability. I truly am a steady, warm, caring and sincere person. I do believe it takes work on my part to find that hidden dominant, direct part of me. I love my job and look forward to working with all different types of personality's.

I am proud to say I am a high "S" with a low "I", and I am making it in real estate!

I am not familiar with the DISC test.  I may have to look this up and take it myself to see if I see me the same way.  I truly believe with hardwork, great customer service and determination ANY ONE can have success!

I just read an article about this and, having recently taken this test, realize that I also don't fit the mold of a successful real estate agent.  I'm a little of everything.  My mapping looks like a spider web in all four quadrants.

Hi. Thanks to the link to my client's site about DiSC. You'll notice that small i. The image you use is for a different version of DISC. The DISC model is used for more than one assessment. Some claim to be able to tell you what profession you'll be best at. DiSC does not. It believes that to make a sale, you have to adapt your style to meet the needs of the style you are selling to. I'm glad to see you proving that one style does not guarantee success or failure at a job.

Hi Kristeen- Thanks for your comment. I found your client's site about DiSC to be very informative for those who don't know about it. I truly believe the DiSC gives those of us who take it an insight into our personality type, and helps us adapt to our clients types. I go into every meeting wondering if I'm going to dig deep and use my "D" or if my "S" will work.
